Short answer: that dull haze on your floor is not dirt. It is a layer of dried-on cleaning product, and it pulls in fresh dust.
Short answer
Streaks on your floor come from your mop water, not from your floor.
Too much water and too much product leave a film behind. It dries into a dull layer that dust sticks to, so a week later the floor looks grubby faster than it did before. Mopping slightly damp with water alone fixes that.
Why your floor stays dull after mopping
Because something is left behind. Every cleaning product leaves residue, and that residue dries into a layer.
It nearly always goes wrong the same way. You pour a splash of all-purpose cleaner into the bucket, because that feels more thorough. You mop with a soaking wet mop. The water sits there and dries, and the product stays behind on your floor.
That layer is invisible while it is fresh, but it is slightly tacky. Dust and grit cling to it. Two weeks later you mop again, and you add another layer on top. That is how you slowly build up a dull floor that you then try to polish away with even more product.
How the floor cleaners measure up
They all loosen something, and they all leave something behind.
| Product | What it does | Where it goes wrong |
|---|---|---|
| All-purpose cleaner | Loosens grease and dirt | Leaves a film that attracts dust; overdosing happens almost every time |
| Wood floor soap | Feeds and protects some types of wood | Builds up a soap layer if you do not rinse afterwards, and that layer turns dull |
| Washing-up liquid | Cuts through grease | Keeps foaming and leaves streaks; it is not made for floors |
| White vinegar | Dissolves limescale and soap residue | Never on marble, travertine or natural stone: the acid attacks the floor |
| Lots of water | Feels thorough | Seeps into the seams of laminate and wood, and leaves puddles that dry into rings |
The pattern is the same as with windows: every product dissolves something and adds something of its own that you then have to get off again. Read also washing windows streak-free: what actually works.
Mind your floor type
Wood and laminate: use as little water as possible. Moisture that seeps into the seams makes the material swell, and that damage cannot be undone. Mop slightly damp, never wet.
Natural stone and marble: no vinegar and no other acid. Acid attacks the stone permanently and leaves dull patches.
Four things you can do without
Look at what people actually type into Google and it comes down to the same thing: mopping without the hassle.
Without streaks, because you stop using any product at all. Without lugging a bucket, because with the wheel set it rolls along behind you. Without wringing, because the spin wringer does that for you. Without bending, because the handle adjusts up to 150 cm.
Four bits of hassle gone, and a floor that still is not dull two weeks later.
How to mop a floor without streaks in four steps
- 1
Vacuum or sweep up the loose dirt first
Mopping over sand and crumbs just smears it around. With the iZi-Click Mop you lift dust and hair away dry, which often saves you getting the hoover out.
- 2
Use water, and nothing else
A dense microfibre cloth picks up dirt mechanically. You need no product to loosen it, so you leave nothing behind either.
- 3
Spin until the mop head is slightly damp, not wet
This is the step that makes the difference. No water should be left standing on your floor. On wood and laminate that is not only better looking, it is also safer for the material.
- 4
Work in strips, backing out of the room
That way you never walk over what you have just done and you can see exactly where you have been.
Why two mop heads?
Because a flat mop cannot reach into corners and a round mop is slow across large areas.
That is why the Turbo Twin Mop comes with both. The flat head does the big work in strips. The round head turns 360 degrees and reaches along skirting boards, behind the toilet and into corners where a flat mop just butts up against the wall.
The set works on every floor type: tiles, wood, laminate, vinyl and marble. The steel handle adjusts up to 150 cm, so you stay upright while you work.

Frequently asked questions
How do you mop a floor without streaks?
With water alone and a mop head that is slightly damp, not wet. Streaks come from cleaning product residue drying on the surface. Leave the product out and there is nothing left behind to make streaks, so the floor stays streak-free.
Can you mop without cleaning products?
Yes, and that is exactly the point. A dense microfibre cloth picks up dirt mechanically instead of loosening it chemically. Water is enough for everyday upkeep.
How do you mop without bending?
With an adjustable handle and a bucket with a built-in spin wringer. You wring with a foot pedal instead of with your hands. The handle of the Turbo Twin Mop extends to 150 cm.
How do you mop without lugging the bucket around?
With wheels under the bucket. The wheel set clicks under the spin wringer bucket, so you push it along with your foot instead of picking it up.
Should you mop with hot or cold water?
Lukewarm water works best. Hot water loosens grease a little faster, but it also evaporates faster, so you get more spots that dry before you have gone over them.
Can you mop a wooden or laminate floor?
Yes, as long as you mop slightly damp and not wet. Water that seeps into the seams makes the material swell, and that damage cannot be undone. Spin the mop head out well before you start.
Can you use vinegar on the floor?
On tiles and vinyl you can, but not on marble, travertine or other natural stone. Acid attacks those types of stone permanently and leaves dull patches. Water is always the safe choice there.
